Our Story

Wharariki is a native flax which is resilient in harsh conditions and acts as a nursery plant. The flax nurses the more vulnerable plants with its overarching leaves from the environment surrounding them.

Two years ago we amended our trust deed to extend our reach across the Ikaroa Rawhiti region.

Through our relationships we weave better lives with whānau and their tamariki. 1 in 3 children in Hawke’s Bay live in poverty.

Why We Do It

We believe everyone has a right to access education, health care, and a warm and dry home that feels secure. We also strongly believe in access to meaningful employment and the need for connection and safety for whanau.

How We Do it

Wharariki supports whānau to “weave better lives”. We use a whānau centered approach. Which places whānau at the heart of our actions and in the driver’s seat. We work with funders and agencies to develop and facilitate programmes which address community priorities.

We are grateful for the work done by the team at MANZISBUILD. They have been vital to the success of this project.
